Orbit were also lucky enough to work for the BBC as part of the Edinburgh Festival; where for the first time we constructed an orbit building for the month of August. This involved using parts of our existing aluminium orbit system alongside newly manufactured steel components, finished off with custom-made white sheets. This resulted in the ‘Big Bubble’; a 16.8m x 25m, 350 capacity venue for BBC3 comedy.

From Lands End to John O’Groats…
Well almost! July has seen us travel the lengths and breadths of the UK with shows from the Shetlands down to Portsmouth. This has been one of the busiest seasons yet, and although a few hiccups along the way we have seen a vast improvement in our products and services. We are looking forward to a slightly quieter August… at least for now!
Ships set sail from Shetlands
July saw thousands of visitors take the opportunity to board and explore the Tall Ships berthed along the Lerwick waterfront. Many visitors enjoyed browsing a variety of stalls including the Shetland Showcase. The extensive family entertainment programme was very popular, as was the Shetland Classic Motor Show.
With over 100 music performances over the weekend, including some fantastic local musical talent, thousands enjoyed the headline concerts on Friday and Saturday night featuring Levellers and Bjorn Again, followed by a spectacular firework display which graced the skies of Lerwick with the Ships berthed at Holmsgarth providing the perfect backdrop.
Orbit was booked 2 years in advance for the show and look forward to the next time we can travel to such a beautiful part of the country.
New projects for Nissan
After winning the contract to build a stand for Nissan at the Goodwood Festival of Speed; we had just 4 weeks to pull it off! A custom steelwork build involving 20 tonnes of steel was constructed in 4 weeks, with another 2 weeks preparation on site. This was then used to support 6 tonnes of video screens and performers from the roof; whilst the stage itself was used to exhibit a further 20 tonnes of shipping containers and a prototype hybrid sports car valued at £1.5million.
